Smith County VINELink Changed
VINELink and VINE are now legacy terms for Texas county notification. The Texas Attorney General states that Texas moved county services to Texas IVSS-Counties, provided by Sylogist, effective September 1, 2025. Existing registrations were carried over. Migrated users may be asked to update a password, review notification preferences, and recognize phone or text messages from a different provider.
Smith County participation and the exact custody or court events offered should be checked in the current county portal. Research did not verify a permanent Smith County event list that can be promised here. The statewide change also means older instructions that say “choose Texas in VINELink” may no longer match the current buttons or screens. Keep an old registration, but review it in the successor service rather than creating a duplicate automatically.

This county transition does not replace TDCJ's notification system. A Smith County booking and a later TDCJ sentence may require separate checks because they belong to different custodians.
Smith County Release Alert Coverage
Choose the notification service by custody system, not merely by the county where the case began. Texas IVSS-Counties is the current route for supported participating-county jail or court events. TDCJ Integrated Victim Services System, also called TDCJ IVSS, covers a person in TDCJ prison custody or on parole or mandatory supervision. Mandatory supervision is a conditional state release under statutory rules. It is not county probation.

No TDCJ prison, federal prison, or ICE detention center was verified inside Smith County. Those systems still matter when a local booking ends in transfer. If the Smith County record names a receiving agency, continue in that agency's system instead of treating the county departure as community release.
Search One Smith County Person
A specific-person check is safer than a broad name scan. Gather the full legal name, spelling variants, date of birth when lawfully available, booking or case number, and the agency believed to hold the person. Then follow the current service's labels, which may differ from old VINELink instructions.

A wrong match can produce notices about another person's case. If no result appears, verify spelling and custody system, then contact the source agency.
Smith County VINELink Result Fields
The exact current IVSS-Counties fields depend on the participating feed and live module. A released county result may show a status or custody-change event, but the display cannot be guaranteed without the current Smith County implementation. TDCJ IVSS uses its own person and notification records. Read every label in the selected service instead of mapping an old VINE screen onto it.

A “released” notice should be preserved with its timestamp, person identifier, and named facility. Then ask the Smith County Sheriff or TDCJ for the underlying record. The term may describe departure from one system, which can include a transfer. A book-out disposition, release certificate, or incarceration history provides stronger long-term proof.
Register Smith County Release Notifications

The separation matters after sentencing. A county booking alert does not by itself guarantee notice of a later TDCJ release.
Legacy VINELink Phone PIN
Older Texas VINE instructions remain useful for understanding an existing registration, but they must be labeled historical. The documented process used VINELink or 1-877-894-8463, selected the county jail or court event, identified the person, and added phone, email, text, or TTY destinations. Telephone users chose a four-digit PIN. Entering that PIN during a notification call acknowledged receipt and stopped repeat calls.
Do not assume the current IVSS-Counties provider uses that PIN workflow. Follow the verification or confirmation step shown in the live portal. Older Texas guidance also said a VINE record could drop out 90 days after release. That statement describes the former service and is not a current Smith County retention promise.
Migrated users do not need to recreate every registration solely because the vendor changed. The Attorney General states registrations were carried over. Update credentials, inspect the listed person and events, and confirm the communication channels. Unexpected message origins may reflect the new provider, but account details should still be verified through the official portal rather than through an unsolicited link.
Confirm Smith County Alert Results
Notifications depend on data supplied by participating agencies and can lag. They are not safety guarantees, court orders, or certified release records. A release alert is time-sensitive evidence of a change in the source system. Preserve it, then confirm the event with the custodian that produced it.
For a Smith County event, search the county portal, check the related court case, call the jail at 903-590-2800, and request the book-out time, disposition, and transfer destination through JustFOIA. For a TDCJ event, compare Online Inmate Search and request incarceration history or a specified release document when durable proof is needed. TDCJ limits its public search to people currently serving a sentence, so a no-hit may reflect full discharge rather than an error.
Use the BOP Inmate Locator for a federal sentence and ICE ODLS for immigration custody. A transfer can create an apparent conflict between services until the receiving system posts its record. Match names, identifiers, dates, and agencies before deciding that two entries describe the same person. Note: Keep the alert and the confirming agency record together because each answers a different part of the release question.
